…Now I’m not talking about the book, but about the legendary film by Francis Ford Coppola «Bram Stoker’s Dracula» (1993). Of course, both before him and after, in many versions of «Dracula» the theme of immortal love is touched upon, but it is in Coppola’s film that this is done so epic and subtly.
In this film version, Prince Dracula comes to London not to eat and kill everyone at once, or for no reason at all, but for the sake of Wilhelmina, the reincarnation of his tragically deceased wife, whom the Church refused to bury only because she committed suicide upon learning of a false death beloved husband. It was for her that Dracula came to London, it was for her that he risked and put himself in danger, and ultimately gave her the gift of immortality, which she herself wanted to receive from him in order to be with him forever. However, as always, according to the digestible cliche of «correctness», Dracula was killed, and Mina was instructed on the «true path», how to live «correctly», i.e. without really deep love and passion.
I ask you to understand me correctly. I’m not calling for everyone to be killed and eaten. I am a pacifist myself.
But I have always felt sorry for poor Dracula, both real and fictional. All this nonsense of stupid people about him, as a force of evil in history, in fact, was always based on the fables of the nobles embittered against him, who wanted to sell the Transylvanian lands to the Turks, which he simply did not allow to do while he was alive. And while he was alive, his country was considered. As for the terrible executions, you just need to honestly think and remember from history what other kings and lords around the world did and how they behaved in the old days. Of course, they also killed and executed. What is the history of the Tudors or the Borgia worth? So if you think about it, he killed or executed not so much more than others🔥

Но сейчас я говорю не о книге, а о легендарном фильме Френсиса Форда Копполы «Дракула Брэма Стокера» (1993). Конечно, и до него, и после, во многих версиях «Дракулы» затрагивается тема бессмертной любви, но именно в фильме Копполы это сделано столь эпично и тонко.
В этой киноверсии князь Дракула приезжает в Лондон не для того, чтобы всех сразу съесть и убить или вообще непонятно для чего, а ради Вильгельмины, реинкарнации его трагически погибшей жены, которую отказалась отпеть Церковь только потому, что она покончила собой, узнав о ложной гибели любимого мужа. Именно ради неё Дракула и прибыл в Лондон, именно ради неё он рисковал и подвергал себя опасности, и в конечном итоге дал ей дар бессмертия, который она сама захотела от него получить, чтобы быть с ним вечно. Однако как всегда по удобоваримому клише «правильности» Дракулу убили, а Мину наставили на «путь истинный», как надо «правильно» жить, т.е. без действительно глубокой любви и страсти.
Я прошу правильно меня понять. Я не призываю к тому, чтобы всех убить и съесть. Я сама пацифистка.
Но я всегда жалела бедного Дракулу, как реального, так и вымышленного. Весь этот бред глупых людей по поводу него, как силы зла по истории, на самом деле всегда основывался на баснях озлобленных против него вельмож, которые хотели продать Трансильванские земли туркам, что он просто не давал сделать пока был жив. И пока он был жив, с его страной считались. А что до страшных казней, то просто следует честно подумать и вспомнить по истории, что делали и как вели себя в старые времена другие короли и владыки по всему миру. Разумеется, ещё как убивали и казнили. Чего стоит история Тюдоров или Борджиа? Так что если хорошо подумать, не настолько уж больше других он убил или казнил.
